BRISTOL, Va. -City leaders say a major development in Bristol, Virginia is on schedule to open in the Fall. And now they’ve released a new video of the up-and-coming shopping area.
News 5 WCYB’s Emily Carrier took a trip to the Falls on Monday, and the anchor stores are taking shape.
Bristol, Virginia released a video from behind the scenes and from the air of the plaza under construction.
Construction workers are wrapping up phase one of the Falls development in Bristol, Virginia.
Vice Mayor Bill Hartley says they are almost finished with the inside of anchor store Cabela’s. He says they’re getting ready to stock the store. Bristol, Virginia Councilman Jim Steele expects Cabela’s to open in late October.
“This is something that’s taken a long time. A lot of people have worked very hard,” he said.
Hartley tells us that Lowe’s is coming up very quickly and will open after Cabela’s later this Fall.
Along with those stores, Hartley says phase one will include Sheetz Gas Station and Zaxby’s Company. “I think that’s when you start seeing a lot more development, that’s really good for everybody, it brings in jobs, it really makes this a development of regional impact,” said Hartley.
But it’s not just shops and restaurants. There will be a waterfall at the entrance of the plaza. “Of course, the name is ‘The Falls,’ so we intend to have a waterfall feature as you drive up that will be very visually striking and let people know the development. But I also think if people come off interstate they’ll want to stop and look and be very proud,” said Hartley.
But he says the grand opening of the development will only be the beginning, “I’d say it’s not the finish line but it’s really the starting line because there’s a lot more to come over the next few years.”
Hartley tells us other businesses have shown interest in being a part of the falls and signed letters of intent. The city will announce the names of those businesses after phase one is complete.
